HSV Stealers – Dortmund Wanderers 2-10The Wanderers clinched a berth in the playoffs with a 10-2 win over the Stealers in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday. After the HSV had tied the contest with a RBI triple by Alex Harms and a RBI single by Thomas Riedner in the bottom of the sixth, Dortmund answered by scoring five runs on five hits and an error in the top of the seventh to decide the outcome.
Rene Herlitzius highlighted the rally with a two-run double. They later added three more runs in the top of the ninth to seal the victory. Trevor Howell scored three times in the game. Dimitar Nassapov gave up two runs on five hits in a complete game win. Marcel Brede pitched seven innings for the loss.
HSV Stealers – Dortmund Wanderers 2-1
In the second part of the doubleheader it was the turn for Kody Hightower and the Stealers. The American starter allowed just three hits in nine innings to out-duel Matt Kemp and to lead Hamburg to an important 2-1 victory. Together with the two losses by the Cardinals on Sunday, they were able to extend their lead in fourth place to two games with four to go.
Hightower not only pitched a gem, but also scored the decisive run in the sixth. He had reached with a one-out walk, moved to second on a groundout and came around on a pair of wild pitches by Kemp. Brehan Murphy had put the HSV up in front in the second, also scoring on a wild pitch. The Wanderers tied it in the fourth with a RBI single by Trevor Howell. Kemp gave up two runs on four hits in seven innings for the loss.
